On the 17th of December, Deshima Sounds will return to the Bazart in Den Haag to throw another awesome party, this time our theme will be ‘Bits with a Bite’. And of course, that theme needs a story…
Kid: “The Deshima Dragon Boss has finally been killed. It took us way too long to beat it, but the loot we got is great! Good game guys, let’s meet up tomorrow at noon at Hachiko statioin and celebrate it with lunch!” Group: “Sounds like a plan!”
The following day in the future year 2051 in a metropolis called Neo-Tokyo, the eight friends decided to meet eachother after a epic game night. For two weeks straight, these friends played the latest virtual reality RPG game called “Wrath of the Deshima Dragon”. They all decided to celebrate their victory at a local ramen store. Of course the topic was what happened the night before. After a while, the girl gamer of the group raised the question “How did video games look like 50 years ago?” At first everyone reacted surprised, but soon they came to the conclusion no one really knew what it was like.
The store owner overheard the conversation, and came with an answer. “Back then times were really different. Computers needed to be upgraded every few years, and game consoles were released every so often. I remember having my very first Nintendo console, an 8-bit beauty.” Amazed, the group shifted their attention to the store owner and wondered how a game would have looked like in the past. The store owner grinned and said he had a very special 8-bit Nintendo game system in his basement, which could still be played with. All hyped up, the group followed the man to see the early beginnings of their gaming hobby. Standing there was an old, grey box with an old television screen. Standing next to that was a high-tech computer, a 60-inch laser TV and on the wall was a old poster with a moustached guy on it. “Super Mario”, was the text above the jumping fellow. The store owner turned the Nintendo system and TV screen on, and said to the group “Have fun in the game world of the past. I need to go back to my customers upstairs.” The group thanked the man as he left, still grinning because of what he already knows. “Let’s play!” one of the guys said, as he picked up a controller and pressed START.
After gaming thirty minutes, the tv screen turned back. The group was disappointed and one of the kids even screamed ‘NOOOOO’, like he saw in an old movie featuring space battles and a masked father. Suddenly the screen flicked on again, but this time it showed a yellow beast popping out of a pipe. The red text on the screen said “Press A to continue gaming, or press START to see another world.” They decided to press START, not knowing what was up ahead. The screen got distorted and turned off again. They tried to switch on the system again, but nothing happened, so they decided to leave. The moment they were about to leave the room, the screen switched on again and a chiptune song was heard. They looked at the screen and saw ‘DESHIMA SOUNDS’. The kids grabbed a controller and pressed start, hoping a new game would appear. Instead, beams came out of the television and zapped the group, turning them into pixel art and pulling them into the game world.
All of a sudden they were in another world. A psychedelic world filled with green pipes, huge T and L blocks and weird creatures. The group freaked out, as they didn’t know what just happened. Suddenly a yellow beast came oud of a pipe and said “Welcome to Deshima Sounds. I hope you will enjoy this world. To finish this game, you must travel to world 8 and find me. Here are 1000 gold coins. Go equip yourself, level up, and good luck!” With that, the beast left quickly.
Now set with a goal, the kids went to the city and equipped themselves. Time to start a new epic adventure in this 8-bit world, and try to win this game! Along the way, they will need help of other Deshima Sounds players to get them home at the 17th of December. Lobbying will start at 19:30h, and the game will start at 20:00h. Estimated game time will be 6,5 hours (until 02:30h). During their quest they will be assisted by Black Mage “Neodash Zerox”, Paladin “MK☆” and Dark Knight “B-Box”. Along the way Laser Gunner “Dnstje” will reinforce them, and during the final battle Tag Team Brawlers “EINDBAAS” will fire their digital assault make sure the kids can go home safely. Their travel will lead them through the worlds ‘House’, ‘Dance’, ‘Techno’, ‘Eurobeat’, ‘Rave’, ‘Hardcore’, ‘Chiptune’ and finally ’8bit’, encountering all kinds of dangers along the way.
For the 7th edition of Deshima Sounds we’re having ‘Bits with a Bite’ as theme. Since we’re playing a video game, you might want to prepare yourself. But beware; 8-bit danger is lurking in every corner and you’re not able to save your game – no continues. You can try some cheat codes. We got word that the all-famous Konami code will work! (UUDDLRLRBASS)
Hierbij dan ook maar mijn requests: Phillerz Bootleg - Zelda (Moet die nog steeds doorsturen naar Dnstje) Art of Fighters - Breaking the Ground (Beatmania 18)
Also Neodash, enig idee wanneer jullie de kaartverkoop openen?
