Spartacus: Blood and Sand is a Starz television series that premiered on January 22, 2010. The series focuses on the historical figure of Spartacus (played by Andy Whitfield), a Thracian gladiator who from 73 to 71 BC led a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. Executive producers Steven S. DeKnight and Robert Tapert focused on structuring the events of Spartacus' obscure early life leading to the records of history.[1] The show has been rated TV-MA for graphic violence, strong sexual content, and coarse language.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena is the six episode prequel that airs January 21, 2011, at 10pm on Starz. As the show had to be delayed due to Andy Whitfield's treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a prequel to the series has been planned to fill in the time until September, when season 2 is scheduled to start being filmed.[1] The story will centre around Batiatus and Lucretia and the rise of the house of Batiatus prior to Spartacus' arrival, seeing returns from many of the gladiators as well, including Doctore, Crixus and Barca amongst others.[2] The show will introduce the gladiator Gannicus, and his rise to fame under Batiatus' hand.

On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic in "Spartacus: Vengeance". Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops are sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus leads before it can inflict further damage. Spartacus is presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man that condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart. Containing all of the blood-soaked action, exotic sexuality, and villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish the series, the tale of Spartacus resumes in epic fashion.

Spartacus
Spartacus (real name unknown) is a Thracian warrior who became a famous Gladiator in the Arena, later to build a legend upon himself. For the first season, he served as a gladiator in Batiatus' Ludus, under the direction of Doctore and rivaled with the then-Champion of Capua Crixus. At the end of the Season, he and many of the gladiators broke free from captivity and began an armed rebellion against Rome itself.

As Spartacus, he survived against Arkadios and three of Marcus Decius Solonius' gladiators in the arena, fought and killed Theokoles in battle (with the assistance of the now former-champion Crixus, and killed many men after becoming Champion in the Arena. Because of his feats, he is often known as the Champion of Capua, as well as the Bringer of Rain (during his battle with Theokoles, the clouds began to gather which was a sign to the Romans that the Gods showed favor in Spartacus...which eventually resulted in a rainfall upon his defeat), and Slayer of Theokoles. He is called "The Thracian" by his enemies, such as Claudius Glaber, Ilithyia, and even Lucretia.

He is the main protagonist of the series, rising from nothing to the greatest fame...only to abandon it to fight for the freedom of all slaves.

Quintus Lentulus Batiatus
Quintus Lentulus Batiatus is a Lanista, a trainer and trader of gladiators. He is head of his family's ludus (gladiator training school) in Capua and Dominus (master) to Spartacus. Batiatus is a main antagonist in Spartacus: Blood and Sand and the lead character of the prequel series, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

het eerste seizoen van spartacus werd in zijn eerste helft geplaagd door een ondermaats script,zware budgettering-problemen en was het veel te veel gericht op de sex-scenes,de 2de helft maakte wel veel goed maar dat het een van de beste series van jaren zou zijn ben ik niet voor te vinden,maar dit is gewoon mijn mening!

Tja het is gore soms, maar dat is wel zo realistisch, ze stonden vroeger in de Arena echt geen handjeklap te doen.

Ik vind deze serie niet te vergelijken met A Game of Thrones, alhoewel GoT natuurlijk wel van een aardig niveau hoger is, maar weer een totaal ander genre. Seizoen 2 van GoT wordt natuurlijk helemáál spektakel!

Geweldige serie. Gotta love sex and violence. Ook een van de weinige series waar de mannen soms nog zwaarder iemands bitch kunnen zijn, dan de vrouwen .

. Erg jammer. Een krijger is heengegaan.

Geweldige serie ken spartacus wel, maar meestal is ie dan al bevrijd en weet je weinig van z'n gevangenschap.
Goeie combinatie van dingen zit er ook in, bloederige geweld, bloot en sex, en verraad tot macht.
Alleen jammer dat Lucy lawless een gewone vrouw moet spelen. Ze kickt ass! als Xena en als ze mee vecht ook al is ze xena niet wordt de serie nog beter. Maar het omgekeerde is ook niet verkeerd aangezien we dr bloot zien.
Ik ben benieuwd naar het 2e seizoen, die prequel zag er al goed uit.

dit gaat voor mij nu al bijna zeker de serie van 2012 worden ( ja game of thrones is ook goed, maar spartacus heeft meer gore en sex en daar hou ik van )

oke spartacus seizoen 2 episode 1 is echt geweldig


en de nieuwe sparatcus ( liam) doet het heel goed het is wel effe dat er een nieuwe spartacus is maar hij is mijn ogen net zo goed als andy (RIP)

Zo ik heb eindelijk tijd gehad om naar spartacus vengeance episode 2 te kijken. En ik kan maar 1 ding zeggen ep 2 was echt weer perfect. En tot nu toe de beste aflevering van vengeance. En young Oenomaus maakt nog best wel een awesome kill

Zo ik heb Spartacus Vengeance Episode 3: The Greater Good gekeken. En ik kan alleen maar zeggen de serie word met elke aflevering steeds beter.

Heb eindelijk de tijd gehad om naar Spartacus Vengeance Episode 5: Libertus te kijken. En ik kan maar 1 ding zeggen. En dat is dit is voor mij nu al de beste serie van 2012
