Gegroet aniway lezer. Het is alweer een tijdje geleden sinds ik heb gepost. Dit maal neem ik een iets andere aanpak als anders. Normaal gesproken moet de lezer de dader aanwijzen door alle bewijzen en verhalen met elkaar te vergelijken. Dat gaat met dit verhaal echter net iets anders. L gaat hier de directe confrontatie met de dader aan. Het is aan jou als lezer de taak om de juiste beslissingen te maken. Dit kan zijn om bepaalde vragen te verzinnen die je moet vragen of bepaalde handelingen moet verzinnen die L moet uitvoeren om de dader te pakken. Zoals altijd post ik het correcte antwoord volgende week.

L and the DARPA leak

Prelude

On December 7th 1998 DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) hired several new employees to fulfill the role of streamlining the data transfer between individual departments. Because of the secretive nature of the research DARPA does for Defense Ministry each department runs its own databank and file sharing system. However as of 1991, in the aftermath of the Gulf War, DARPA has been stressed to develop ever more advanced weaponry with ever tightening annual budgets. This has lead the board of directors to decide that the data transfer system and file sharing system has to be centrally lead. This way DARPA can cut back on the expensive individual systems it has to fund for each department and now departments can exchange vital research information between one-another more easily.

However an NSA (National Security Agency) investigation shortly thereafter revealed that a female spy entered the country recently and is now working at DARPA. It is obvious that a spy in the position of one the data transfer employees is in an excellent position to steal US military secrets and benefit UN enemies. The Department of Defense has decided the spy has to be dealt with quickly and beneath the covers. This means, no big inquiry and absolutely no media. That is where the decision was made to contact L. L is to investigate the employees solely and discover the spy. L is given a fake DARPA ID posing as a high official investigating new employees.

L’ first move

Posing as a DARPA official, L contact each employee to schedule a meeting. Although the spy is a woman, all the male employees are also contacted to avoid suspicion. In addition all their personal computers, workstation, phone lines and cell phones are wired and tapped too.

Suspects

1. Michelle Hoffman

A 31 year old Caucasian woman. She was selected for her computer skills and outstanding IQ score, being 142. She has a PhD in Telecommunication. She is unwed and says to have a relationship with a local man her age. She lives alone in an apartment.

2. Angela Overtyne

A 23 year old Caucasian woman. She was recommended by ArmsTech where she helped develop a similar communication system. Her IQ score was 128 at age 13 and 138 when she was screened for this function. She has a PhD in IT. She is unwed and currently not seeing anyone. She still lives with her parents.

3. Clarice Spencer

A 35 year old Caucasian woman. She was selected for her computer skill and PhD in IT and Telecommunication. She is married to Mark Spencer, a 40 year old car salesman.


Task for this week

1. Set up a questionnaire for the three female employees.
2. Point out who is the spy. Evidence is not necessary at this point.
3. Explain your reasoning to a good degree. You don’t have to back it up with evidence yet.
