Shedding Lights

Weird title, I know.

Anyways it’s about shedding some lights on my Zelda: Link’s Awakening translation. It still isn’t out, even though I’ve told people “before 2009″, “end of January”, “Before March”… Sheesh, I’m starting to look like Blizzard. So yeah, for now it’s “When it’s done”. Crap thing is, I had it entirely translated, ready for the debugging and spellchecking while playing, but my computer had a blue screen before I was able to save (remember kids, save once every 5 minutes, it’s only ctrl-S!) and that let me annoyed because it was the last part.. With the most annoying senteces from that bloody grandpa ulrira (he who explains a lot in the game :| ).

Epix

A small thought on Burning Crusade last days.
I hope WotLK will be less like this =/

EDIT:

Good time for me to rant a little about WoW.
Things probably a lot of people kind of know, but some thoughts they might not share…

So, I was playing with my 56 Priest again. (I currently have a 70 hunter which whom I don’t really play, a 56 priest with whom I play regularly, mostly instance healing and a 50 druid playing with another for 300% xp and fun tanking). I’ve been desperately trying to find groups to BRD or LBRS. Yeah, LBRS. I really like that instance. It’s quite tough and good bosses (though during vanilla wow’s time you’ve seen it enough times).

But… Not many people play them. It’s damn hard fining a group, and especially a group good enough.

Two things are bad here:
- Noobish players. Almost all of them don’t even know where BRD/LBRS lies. Safe for what’s waiting for them inside and tactics stuff. Tanks that can’t tank (I as healer keep getting aggro or mobs that keep hitting me). And ofcourse Huntards that have pets running around everywhere pulling half the instance… But sadly, there are no better players. A lot of people joined after BC and don’t know 60 content.
- Gear whores. This has always been a big problem.. But today I had a small discussion about this. Someone wondered why the heck I wanted to do LBRS while I could as good get 2 levels fast and get better greenies. Obviously, I don’t care. I’m not playing because of the gear. Ofcourse it’s an important part and I’ll be happy looting a new item, but my main statisfaction comes from actually playing the instance and killing bosses. Sadly, a lot just want the damn items…

There… and back again

So, the server’s back online. Yay. I first destroyed it because I removed a vital file in the FreeBSD shared objects directory.. Stupid me. It was because I couldn’t run a program, was quite annoyed over it (some weird error about the shared object being unable to do something..) and deleted it. Meh.

Server back, tried to run the program again.. I thought this repair install of Fbsd fixed it.. but still the same error. I didn’t know why, till I figured out that the program’s executable was still set on version 6.2 while I needed 7.0. I did download 7.0 but I just forgot to overwrite it in that directory too.

Nonetheless, I think everything is running again. Enjoy the TeamSpeak server for as far as you use it and perhaps the ZDaemon server..

Besides that, I’ve started running a stream server. The idea behind it lies at a forum I visit (GSRealm if you’re interested). The people there will be able to stream so others can listen to it. I’ll be one to stream quite a lot I think (though I gotta use FooBar2000 and I prefer using WMP), so in case you want to hear the stuff I listen to, be sure to stream in at http://xslicer.nl:8000/stream.ogg.m3u

On a little side note:
As I was ranting about Pokemon Diamond/Pearl being so slow.. Appearently more people thought so and the devs made it faster (Ruby/Sapphire speed) in the newest Pokemon Platinum. It’s for now only available in moonspeak so gotta wait till the English version before I’ll test it out.

RolePlayingSlowness

I have been thinking a few times over and I basically came to a conclusion why I’m starting to hate some RPG’s more and more over (like Final Fantasy).
I recently played some Lufia 2 at a friend and we had to grind a little. This goes quite smooth in this game, walk a little bit on the overworld or move to a monster in a dungeon, then the battle goes quickly (just hold L for autoattack etc). Reminded me a little of Golden Sun where it was mashing A and choosing some monsters to complete a battle (damn Camelot for not doing smart attack and instead defending).

Now, I always told myself to try a Final Fantasy game again, and this time it was the remake of FF4 on the DS that caught my attention. Let’s try this! So, I started it up, looking at this cutscene on the airship.. some talks, no problem.. The first battle was here!
*Battlesound.. camera moving around……. tumtumtum..*okay.. can I attack yet?……….. Woot! I can attack. Finally. *chooses attack*………..*attacks*……..*enemy attacks*…….blablalba…………*yay next round*…..same as before and battle completed……………..*done*….

Why does it have to take this damn long? I might be a bit whining now because it’s not that bad right? Well, for me it is. It takes way too long. Battles should be fast paced, quickly starting and ending to allow for fun grinding and so on.
The same counts with Pokemon btw. Where I first had the patience to watch through all those animations of trainers attacking and showing their pokemans, I now lost that patience. Too bad.

Hm, I might time these sequences in the games.

First Post – Translating

Sooo… here I am, writing my first post on this very awesome blog that has absolutely nothing.
Shiny, isnt it?

Anyways, I was thinking of something to start with and I just tought about writing someting about my very special awesome translation of the Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Yeah, I’m translating this game from English to Dutch. Mainly because I really love this game and 5 years ago I tought it would be fun to translate it.
Yeah, I started with this 5 years ago and I still haven’t completed it. Well, this year I will complete it, I’m sure of it because I have told people so I will!

On this point of translating.. Most people here (in the Netherlands) are somewhat against Dutch in games. I kind of agree to a point where shitty translations end up with ‘not-cool-sounding’ sentences or words, but it is still your main language and it needs some more love (just like in the supermarket, there are lots of products with English names and descriptions…. whats with Dutch?). I mostly play my games in Dutch (if there even is one; there are hardly any..), because I simply have a lot of fun seeing things in my own language (translation must be good though) and perhaps that’s another reason why I’m translating this game and perhaps going to do others after it.

Some screens for my WIP (I thought I didn’t have much left to do, but I still have quite some text to translate and then bugfixing/checking 3-4-5 year old texts that are filled with wrong spellings..)
